Content

The database contains data from the Hoppenstedt Aktienführer, covering the period from 1956 until 2016. The volumes from 1956 until 1975 were captured automatically by OCR and imported into the database. The volumes from 1976 until 1999 were captured manually by Double-Keying. From 1999 until 2018 the Hoppenstedt Aktienführer was published biannually on CD-ROM. As far as they were available, these data were added to the Aktienführer Data Archive by automated tools.

The data source of the Aktienführer Data Archive for the period from 1956 to 1999 are the printed volumes of the Hoppenstedt Aktienführer. From 1999 until 2018 the Aktienführer was published biannually on CD-ROM. From 1999 until 2008, only the second issue of each year is available in the Aktienführer Data Archive. From 2009 on, both yearly issues are included.

You can either use the search for an overview of the available data, or use the export option to compile and download data for specific companies, years and data categories.

Data Documentation

You can use the search function for an overview of the data available in the Aktienführer Data Archive, then use the export section to select specific companies, years and data categories for download in the CSV format. For each download only one data category is available. The first four columns of all exported CSV files contain so-called AKF connectors to allow for the subsequent merging of individual datasets.

About the Project

The Aktienführer Data Archive is a project of the Mannheim University Library, funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG). The database of the Aktienführer Data Archive offers convenient access to the contents of the Hoppenstedt-Aktienführer, covering the years from 1956 to 2016. In the website section Search you can scan through all volumes of the Aktienführer, the section Export offers comprehensive download options. In addition, the section Scans provides access to full texts of the printed volumes of the Aktienführer (1953-1999) an its predecessor publication Saling’s Börsenpapiere (1870-1942).

Access to the Aktienführer Data Archive is reserved for publicly funded research institutions, such as universities, and individual researchers with proven interest in the topic. Please Contact us to gain access.

During the first project phase from 2013 to 2015, the Hoppenstedt-Aktienführer’s volumes from 1976 to 1999 were digitized and provided with tables of contents. Applying a ‘Double-Keying’ approach, the data were converted into a structured data base with filtering and export functions.

During the second project phase from 2017 to 2019, the remaining volumes of the Hoppenstedt Aktienführer and its predecessor, Saling’s Börsenpapiere (1870-1942), were digitized and provided with tables of contents and full-text search based on the results of optical character recognition (OCR). Using the OCR results, the data for the years 1956 to 1975 were added to the existing data base. This process was mostly automatized. The software tools developed for this purpose can be freely reused. The data for the years 1999 to 2016, available from CD-ROMs, were also added to the database.

The digitization of the Hoppenstedt Aktienführer was supported by the following institutions, mainly through the provision of missing print issues, and we express our sincere thanks to them:

  • University and City Library of Cologne,
  • University Library of Ruhr-Universität Bochum
